2Face’s Early Life and Biography

The beautiful city of Jos, in Plateau State, Nigeria, is where Innocent Idibia was born. He belongs to the Idoma ethnic group, which is concentrated in central Nigeria’s southern Benue State. For his secondary school, he attended Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School in Makurdi, Benue State.

His first-year National Diploma in business administration and management was earned at the Institute of Management & Technology, Enugu (IMT).

He performed at events hosted by the school, as well as at other universities like the University of Nigeria and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, while he was a student at IMT.

He finally made the choice to drop out of school to focus on his music career. Enugu State University of Technology (IMT) alumnus 2face Idibia started writing and singing jingles for the GB Fan Club at Enugu State Broadcasting Services (ESBS) in 1996, two years after receiving his degree.

He also started performing under the alias “2Face” in 1996. (Tuface). He stated that he was “trying to demarcate my personal life from my business life” in order to justify his choice. He officially took on the stage name 2Baba in the year 2016.

Career

He relocated to Lagos and began sharing the stage with Blackface Naija. While attending high school in Benue, he encountered BlackFace. He later went on to establish the trio band Plantashun Boiz with Blackface (Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo) and musician Faze (Chibuzor Oji).

Before breaking up in 2004, Plantashun Boiz had two successful albums published on Nelson Brown’s label, Dove Records: Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003).

Years of strained relationships preceded the band’s dissolution and the beginning of the members’ solo careers.

The group reunited in 2007 to record their third and last album, Plan B, years after the breakup known as the “Faze vs. Tuface” fight (2007).

BlackFace frequently asserted that 2Face was playing songs that they both co-wrote while failing to give him the proceeds. The dispute was finally resolved peacefully after a protracted legal and media struggle.

After Plantashun Boyz split up in 2004, each band member pursued a solo musical career. In 2004, 2Baba’s debut solo album Face 2 Face was released, solidifying his position as a promising solo artist.

After releasing his debut album, he followed it up with the 2006 release of Grass 2 Grace, which featured the singles “One Love,” “True Love,” and “4 Instance.” The company Hypertek Entertainment was founded by him.

Designer Olufeko’s abstract artwork Star Studded of Idibia was on display in December 2013 at a pop-up exhibition with the subject ENCORE.

His song “African Queen” was featured on the soundtrack for the internationally distributed movie Phat Girlz in 2006.

He released the experimental track “Enter the Place” from his The Unstoppable album in 2009.

Due to distribution issues in 2007, the album’s release date was pushed back from 2008 to early 2009.

2Baba became the first Nigerian artist to have a properly priced worldwide album in 2010 when he released a “International Edition” of the same song under the title The Unstoppable International Edition.

2face added two more singles to the The Unstoppable album’s international release.

Two accolades were given to the foreign edition of the album at the 2010 SoundCity Music Video Awards.

Additionally, he received awards from MTV Africa Music Awards for Best Male and Artist of the Year, as well as the Channel O Music Video Awards for Best African Western.

After his second solo album was released, he left the music label Kennis Music and founded his own label, Hypertek Entertainment.

Along with seven other musicians from across Africa, he is a member of the Sony All African One8 Project and has been working on the song “Hands Across the World” with R. Kelly and Prince Lee.
