Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Jr., popularly known as AB Crentsil, was born in Prestea, the western region of Ghana, to the late Alfred Benjamin Crentsil and Esi Yaaba in 1943.
Until the death of his father in 1984, he was often addressed as AB Junior. He had his primary and middle school education at Takoradi Methodist Primary and Rev Cleveland Middle School respectively.
When his father was alive, AB Crentsil worked under him as an electrical apprentice. His father was the Works Superintendent of the technical branch of Ghana Railways at Takoradi after his middle-school examinations.
During his period in middle school, the famous music star got his first introduction to music by Mr. Thedoh.
He became interested in developing his guitar skills and in no time, he became excellent in playing guitar.
During this period, he worked as an electrician and played with the Strollers Band. He has played with the El Dorados, the Sweet Talks, which latter group in the 1970s, under the joint leadership of Crentsil and Smart Nkansah, were the resident band at The Talk Of The Town Hotel in Tema, with him as the lead singer, and finally the Ahenfo Band.
He released his first studio album in the year 1990 and the album was a 16-track album. The album had Devil as one of the most known songs on it.
He is married to Elizabeth, with whom he has eight children.
