Elyssa Figueroa (formerly known as Elyssa Smith) is a worship leader, songwriter, and recording artist renowned for her role in the UPPERROOM movement based in Dallas, Texas. Born and raised in Borger, Texas, she moved to Dallas in 2010 to attend Christ for the Nations Institute.
Since 2013, Elyssa has been an integral part of UPPERROOM, serving as a writer, worship leader, and artist, and regularly ministers in the prayer room multiple times a week.
Elyssa is best known for writing the globally recognized worship anthem “Surrounded (Fight My Battles),” which has been embraced by churches worldwide. Her solo debut album showcases a blend of epic production and intimate songwriting, drawing comparisons to artists like Imogen Heap and Lauren Daigle. The album features collaborations with artists such as Steffany Gretzinger and includes songs like “Catch Me,” “Hey Jesus,” and “Lovesick”.
Beyond her musical endeavors, Elyssa co-hosts The Handlebar Podcast, engaging in authentic conversations about faith and life. She is married to fellow worship leader Joel Figueroa, and together they continue to lead worship and contribute to the UPPERROOM community.
