Jonathan Andrew Nelson (born November 10, 1974) is an American gospel singer-songwriter, producer, and worship leader from Baltimore, Maryland. The son of Bishop James D. Nelson and Bessie Nelson, he was raised in a musical, church-centered home and later studied at the Baltimore School for the Arts and Morgan State University. He began his music ministry in a group called Purpose, where his writing caught the attention of gospel artist Donald Lawrence—his song “Healed” became a major hit in 2005, earning him a Stellar Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2006.
Nelson launched his solo career with the live album Right Now Praise (2008) under Integrity Music, followed by Better Days (2010), Finish Strong (2013), and Fearless (2016) on Light Records/eOne. He has received Dove and Stellar Award nominations and won multiple Stellar Awards. Beyond recording, Jonathan serves as the Director of Worship and Arts at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, leading vibrant worship experiences. He is married to Christina Nelson (since December 20, 1998), and they have two children, J. Andrew and Julianna.
