Martin James Smith, known professionally as Martin Smith, is a highly influential English vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer. Born on July 6, 1970, in Woodford Green, London, England, he has been a prominent figure in Christian music for over three decades. Before his full-time music career, Smith worked as a sound engineer. He is married to Anna Smith since 1994, and they have six children, one of whom, Elle Limebear, is also a worship singer. They are part of St. Peter’s Church in Brighton, England.

Smith is best known as the frontman of the groundbreaking Christian rock and worship band Delirious?, which formed as The Cutting Edge Band in 1992 and became Delirious? in 1996. During his time with Delirious? until their disbandment in 2009, he penned many globally recognized worship anthems such as “I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever,” “Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble?,” and “History Maker.”

His music primarily spans Christian Rock, Contemporary Worship Music, Alternative Rock, and Pop. After Delirious?, Martin Smith embarked on a successful solo career, independently releasing a series of EPs (God’s Great Dance Floor: Movements One through Four) in 2012 and 2013, which were later compiled into full albums. He also fronted the band Army of Bones.

Martin Smith has continued to release significant solo material, including albums like Iron Lung (2019), Exalt (2020), and Joy (2024). He has collaborated with numerous other artists, including Chris Tomlin (co-writing “God’s Great Dance Floor”), Kari Jobe, Elle Limebear, and Ryan Stevenson. Over his career, he has been associated with various record labels, including Furious?, Survivor, Sparrow, and Virgin. More recently, he has released music in partnership with Integrity Music. His songs continue to inspire and influence generations of worshippers and worship leaders worldwide.
