Samson Uche Mogekwu—better known by his stage name Samsong—is a Nigerian contemporary gospel singer, songwriter, and minister, based in Abuja. Born on November 30, 1974, in Delta State, Nigeria, he discovered his vocal talent during his high school years, adopting “Samsong” as his moniker. He earned a degree in Accounting from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, before briefly working at the Central Bank of Nigeria, but later left banking to pursue a career in gospel music full-time.
Samsong began his music journey in 1991 as a member of the quartet Praise Creation, releasing Best of Life in 1996 under Ivory Music Label. After the group disbanded, he launched his solo career with Count Your Blessings in 2002—an album that earned him the Psalmist Award and widespread recognition. He followed with Still Counting in 2004, winning Best Male Vocalist awards from Today’s Music Awards and The Amen Awards, plus Best Video at Vigoma Awards in 2005. His third album, The World of My Dreams (2007), featured notable collaborations and earned further acclaim, including the Grace Honorary Award and a nomination for Best Gospel Artist at the 2008 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He also founded Boogie Down Concept label and has shared stages with gospel legends like Marvin Winans, Donnie McClurkin, and Panam Percy Paul.
