The Republic of Benin has of recent rejected Sunday Igboho’s extradition back to his home land, Nigeria.
Sunday Igboho who is a Yoruba Nation Activist was taken by the Benin security agency, into custody together with his wife in neighboring Cotonou on monday night. News has it that the directive came from Nigeria as he, Sunday was reportedly planning to travel to Germany with his German wife.
A robust legal challenge by Igboho’s legal team against the Benin government has now stapled his extradition to Nigeria despite the fact that the federal government insisted that he be extradited to Nigeria to face face allegations of weapons stocking and activities that threaten the country.
Despite the much pressure from Nigerian government, the Republic of Benin has however insisted that it would not be part of any process that was against protocols.
“The Nigerian government planned to extradite him on Wednesday, but our government said the rule of law must be obeyed.” A respondent from mykapablenaija.com reports.
One of the lawyers of Sunday Igboho, Pelumi Olajengbesi, reported that “Benin Republic has shown itself to be a country that has regards for it’s rule of law and due process,” and that Igboho’s legal team in Benin were in dialogue the the Benin government.”
