Ckay was born on July 16, 1995, in Nigeria’s northern metropolis of Kaduna. He was born into the Igbo-descendant family of Mr. and Mrs. Ekweani. Ckay, who goes by the Igbo name Chukwuka, which translates as “God is Great” in English, is from the South-East part of the country’s Anambra State.
The Ekweanis were Christians even though they lived in Kaduna. The family participated actively in their neighborhood church and routinely attended church services there. The choir included Ckay’s father, who held the prestigious title of Choir Conductor.
Ckay picked up an interest in music from Mr. Ekweani and started playing the musical instruments in the church. As Ckay grew older, he developed his skill at playing a variety of instruments and joined the church’s instrumentalists.
