Early Life


Ckay was born on July 16, 1995, in Nigeria’s northern metropolis of Kaduna. He was born into the Igbo-descendant family of Mr. and Mrs. Ekweani. Ckay, who goes by the Igbo name Chukwuka, which translates as “God is Great” in English, is from the South-East part of the country’s Anambra State.
The Ekweanis were Christians even though they lived in Kaduna. The family participated actively in their neighborhood church and routinely attended church services there. The choir included Ckay’s father, who held the prestigious title of Choir Conductor.

He became successful immediately and in 2014, MI Abaga’s Loopy Music signed him as a recording artist. Ckay also completed some work for Chocolate City Music Group as a result of the collaboration between Loopy Music and that company. On September 11th, 2017, Ckay released the EP Who the Fuck is Ckay?, making his debut in the industry.
