Desmond Oluwashola Elliot, also known as Desmond Elliot, is a well-known Nigerian actor, director, and politician. He was born on 4 February 1974.
He has appeared in more than 200 movies, TV series, and soap operas.
He was nominated for best supporting actor at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won best supporting actor in a drama at the 2nd Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
In the 11 April 2015 Nigerian General Elections, Desmond Elliot was chosen to represent the Surulere Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Early Life & Education
Desmond Elliot was born to a Yoruba mother from Illah in Oshimili North, Delta State, and a father from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island, Lagos. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elliott on February 4, 1974.
He attended Jos’ Air Force Primary School for his elementary education. He continued to St. John’s College, also in Jos, after completing his elementary schooling.
Desmond Elliot pursued economics as a way to advance his studies. He earned an Economics degree from Lagos State University in 2003. But this did not stop him from taking action.
A friend encouraged Desmond Elliot to pursue acting. He began appearing in soap operas including Saints and One Too Much, Everyday People, including sinners.
He has starred in over 200 movies, including Men Who Cheat, Yahoo Millionaire, and Atlanta. He is one of Nollywood’s top actors. For his performance in the film “Behind Closed Doors,” he was nominated in 2006 for the African Movie Academy Award for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role.”
Desmond Elliot co-produced and co-directed the 2008 movie “Reloaded,” which was nominated for three 2009 African Movie Academy Awards. He was a nominee for the Nigeria Entertainment Awards’ Best Actor category in 2009 and 2010.
Desmond Elliot also competed to become the Face of Hope Project’s ambassador in 2010, which is a “volunteer-based non-profit, non-religious, non-political organization formed to provide hope to the hopeless”, If he wins, he will try to combat “child illiteracy in Nigeria and Africa at general.”
He received a nomination for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” at the 2014 African Movie Academy Awards for the film “Finding Mercy.”
Desmond Elliot declared his desire to run for the Lagos State House of Assembly on behalf of the All Progressives Congress in September 2014. In the general elections held in Nigeria on April 11, 2015, he ran for and won the Surulere Constituency.
Desmond Elliot received harsh criticism in October 2020 during the End SARS demonstration for supposedly supporting the Anti-Social Media Bill in Nigeria, an accusation he had earlier rejected when the news initially spread on social media.
In a widely shared viral video, he was seen harshly condemning social media influencers and users, warning that if the Nigerian government doesn’t act, social media will topple the government altogether. Nigerians on social media did not take his remarks lightly, and as a result, the phrase “It’s Desmond Elliot’s fault” (na Desmond Elliot cause am) became widely used.
