On April 19, 1989, Simu was born to engineers Zheng and Zhenning Liu. He is a native of Harbin, China, and speaks Mandarin with ease. His grandparents raised him initially.
His parents made the decision to pursue aerospace engineering degrees in Canada when he was five years old. So they moved to Mississauga, Ontario, along with their son. They introduced him to complex maths at a young age as well.
