Blessing Shumba is a renowned Zimbabwean gospel musician, affectionately known as “The Psalmist,” celebrated for his emotive and soul-stirring music that resonates deeply with Christian communities both within Zimbabwe and beyond.
Born in 1980 in Buhera, Shumba’s musical journey began in 2001 when he formed a choral group named Vakushi veShoko, which later disbanded, prompting him to embark on a solo career. His debut single, “Kurwa Kwakanaka,” was released in 2008, followed by his first album, Ishe Wazvose, in 2009.
He gained significant recognition with his second album, NdiMwari (2010), which featured the hit song “Mufaro,” propelling him into the limelight. Over the years, Shumba has released several albums, including Shongwe (2011), Holy Psalms Volume 1 – NdiJesu (2014), Calvary (2016), My Season: Holy Psalms, Vol. 3 (2017), Shumba Yokwajuda (2022), and Christos (2024).
His music, often sung in Shona, blends traditional African rhythms with modern gospel elements, delivering messages of faith, hope, and divine love.
Shumba’s influence extends beyond music; he is also a preacher and a philanthropist, using his platform to inspire and uplift communities. His recent album, Christos, released in May 2024, continues to showcase his commitment to spreading the word of God through music.
