Matthew West is an American contemporary Christian musician, singer-songwriter, and author born on April 25, 1977, in Downers Grove, Illinois.
He began his music career in the late 1990s, releasing three independent albums before signing with Universal South Records in 2002. His major-label debut, Happy (2003), produced the hit single “More,” which topped Christian Adult Contemporary charts. West has since released numerous albums, including Something to Say (2008), Into the Light (2012), and My Story Your Glory (2023).
He has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and has received multiple ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year awards. In 2019, he signed with Provident Label Group/Sony Music and launched the imprint Story House Music to support emerging artists. Beyond music, West has authored several books and co-founded popwe, a non-profit ministry aimed at helping individuals craft and share meaningful stories.
