Mmatema Gavu (née Moremi) is a South African gospel singer, songwriter, and media personality who rose to prominence as the runner-up on the 11th season of Idols South Africa in 2015.
Born on February 26, 1992, in Zebeidelia, Limpopo, she began singing at a young age, captivating audiences by age 10. Despite initial setbacks in earlier Idols auditions, her perseverance paid off when her rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper” impressed judges and audiences alike.
Following the competition, she signed with Universal Music South Africa but later founded her own label, Mmatema Moremi Media Productions, to focus on gospel music. Her debut album, Love Praise & Worship, was released in 2017.
In 2025, she unveiled Heart of Gratitude, a deeply personal project reflecting her spiritual journey and gratitude, recorded live at the venue where her Idols journey began. Beyond music, Mmatema is a devoted wife and mother of two, and she continues to inspire many through her faith-driven artistry and authenticity.
