PDP Hails Court of Appeal Ruling Affirming Dr. Asue Ighodalo as Governorship Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has celebrated the recent Court of Appeal ruling which unanimously upheld Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s nomination as the PDP candidate for the September 21, 2024 Edo State Governorship election.

In a statement released by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party described the judgment as a significant victory for democracy and the rule of law. Ologunagba emphasized that the decision countered attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the will of the people of Edo State.

The statement read: “The Court of Appeal’s judgment reaffirms the integrity of the PDP’s nomination process and validates Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy. This ruling silences those spreading misinformation within the APC, who have been unsettled by Dr. Ighodalo’s growing popularity and the support he enjoys from various key APC members.”

The PDP noted the widespread jubilation across Edo State in response to the ruling, which they interpret as a clear indication of strong public support for Dr. Ighodalo. The party contends that this support reflects the collective vision and aspirations of the people of Edo State and predicts a decisive victory in the forthcoming election.

Ologunagba addressed the APC directly, suggesting that the party and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, along with their allies, including Adams Oshiomhole, should recognize the imminent defeat they face. He argued that the people of Edo State have decisively chosen Dr. Ighodalo as their next governor and are unlikely to be influenced by the APC’s campaign tactics.

“The APC should accept the reality that the people of Edo State have firmly decided in favor of Dr. Asue Ighodalo as their future governor,” the statement concluded, dismissing the APC’s candidate as lacking substance and vision for the state’s future.
