NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Starting Sunday

RESIDENTS ADVISED TO PREPARE FOR WET AND STORMY WEATHER CONDITIONS

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a period of significant weather activity from Sunday through Tuesday. Here’s a summary of their predictions:

Weather Forecast:

  1. Sunday:
    • Northern Region: Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe States in the morning. Thunderstorms will likely continue across the region in the afternoon and evening.
    • North Central Region: Thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States in the morning. Expect thunderstorms with rain throughout the day. Southern cities will have cloudy skies in the morning with intermittent rain later.
  2. Monday:
    • Northern Region: Morning thunderstorms are expected over Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa States. Thunderstorms will continue across the region later in the day.
    • North Central Region: Morning thunderstorms with rain are forecasted for the FCT, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States. Thunderstorms with rain are expected later in the day. Southern states will experience cloudy skies with intermittent rain in the afternoon and evening.
  3. Tuesday:
    • Northern Region: Morning thunderstorms are predicted for Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States, with cloudy skies anticipated later in the day.
    • North Central Region: Thunderstorms with rain are expected in Niger and Kwara States in the morning, with thunderstorms and rain over parts of Kogi, FCT, and Benue States in the afternoon and evening. The southern region will have intermittent rain throughout the day.

  • Flooding: Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas due to a high likelihood of urban flooding from heavy rains.
