PROFESSOR YERIMA BEGINS HIS TENURE AS THE NEW ACTING VICE-CHANCELLOR, STEPPING INTO THE ROLE AT SOKOTO UNIVERSITY AMID EXPECTATIONS FOR CONTINUED ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT

Sokoto State University Welcomes New Acting Vice-Chancellor

Sokoto State University has embarked on a new chapter with the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Bello Yerima as the acting vice-chancellor, succeeding Prof. Bashir Garba, who is set to lead Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The handover ceremony took place on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Senate Chamber, marking a pivotal moment in the university’s leadership transition.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Yerima committed to building upon the solid foundation established by his predecessor. He outlined his vision for the university, focusing on enhancing its academic standing and fostering a collaborative environment. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, communication, and staff welfare, Prof. Yerima also promised to implement an open-door policy to facilitate feedback and ensure the safety and security of the university community.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Garba, expressed his gratitude for the support received during his tenure and urged continued collaboration with Prof. Yerima. He highlighted key accomplishments, including the completion of significant infrastructural projects and the achievement of full accreditation for 18 undergraduate programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The Commissioner for Higher Education, represented by Alh. Abubakar Muhammad Gagi, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting higher education in Sokoto State. The ceremony, attended by various dignitaries, signaled a promising new era for both Sokoto State University and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, as they aim to advance their educational and research objectives.
