Jesus de greatest, Nigeria
Obinna Onuoha, a businessman had a dream in 1997 to build a giant status for Jesus. The tallest statue of Jesus in Africa began construction in 2013. Three years later, the statue stands in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Abajah village in Imo state.
The statue was made of white marble and it is 8.53 metres (28.0 ft) tall and weighs 40 tons. The largest statue of Jesus in the world is the Christ the King statue found in Poland. It is 108 ft.
Nelson Mandela Statue, South Africa
This statue was constructed in honour of the late former President of South Africa and an anti-apartheid activist; Nelson Mandela. It was inaugurated on June, 2013 to bring a close official 10-day mourning period of the much loved former state president.
Statue of Ramesses II, Egypt
The statue is 3,200 years old. It is the second statue standing. It was discovered in 1820 after it was broken into six pieces. They was an attempt to restore it full height but, it was unsuccessful until 1955. It now stands at 11 metres (36 ft) in Giza.
Queen Moremi Statue of Liberty, Nigeria
This statue was revered by the Yourba tribe as an epitome of selflessness, bravery and wisdom. She has immortalized in several ways with books about her, public places named after her, and the greatest of them all, was the Statue of Liberty built in her name. It was erected in 2016 by Oba Ogunwusi in the Ife palace.
The 42 feet statue is the tallest statue in Nigeria and the fourth tallest in Africa.
Colossi of Memnon, Egypt
It can be called el-Colossat in Arabic. It is actually a pair of massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III. For the past 3,400 years i.e. since 1350BC, the statue has been standing in the Theban Necropolis. It is located at the West side of the River Nile from the modern city.
The Great Sphnix of Giza, Egypt
The Sphnix is a limestone statue of 66.31ft or 20.21 metres high. It is a mythical creature with a body of a lion and the head of a human. Face directly from the West to East, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the West Bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. It is generally believed that the face of the statue is the face of Pharaoh Khafre.
African Renaissance, Senegal
This bronze statue stands on top of one of the twin hills of Collines des Mamelles, outside Dakar. It is the tallest statue in Africa. It is 161ft or 49m tall.
In 2010, the project was launched by then Senegalese president, Abdoulaye Wade who considered it as part of the Senegal’s prestige projects, aimed at providing monuments to herald a new era of African Renaissance.
