On Friday, a devastating accident occurred in the Papalanto area of Ewekoro Local Government, Ogun State, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her granddaughter. The victims were traveling in a tricycle with registration number TRE 627 VP when they were struck by an Iveco truck with registration number KJA166 XJ.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the accident was caused by the truck driver’s reckless behavior. The truck was reported to have overtaken the tricycle while both vehicles were traveling towards Abeokuta. In the process, the truck collided with the tricycle, dragging it and causing it to fall in front of the truck. This led to the truck running over the tricycle, instantly killing the woman and her granddaughter, who were the only passengers in the tricycle.
The truck driver fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him. The accident also involved two other individuals, though they sustained injuries rather than fatal injuries. The injured tricycle driver was taken to an unknown hospital by a bystander.
Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were returned to their families for burial. Akinbiyi urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid dangerous and reckless driving to prevent such tragic outcomes in the future.
