Former Ondo State First Lady, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Earns Doctoral Degree

Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, has successfully earned her doctoral degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure. The Nigerian aquaculturist, who served as First Lady from 2017 to 2023, defended her PhD thesis on Friday before a panel of esteemed professors.

Her thesis, titled “Comparative Bio-technical Models for the Production of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) Fingerlings Using Solar Powered Recirculating Aquaculture System,” involved a rigorous defense that lasted several hours. Following the successful defense, Akeredolu emerged from the session beaming with joy and celebration.

In an interview with Crystal News immediately after the defense, Akeredolu dedicated her achievement to her late husband, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN. She shared that while she had been working on the project for some time, her public duties as First Lady had delayed its completion.

Akeredolu expressed both happiness and sadness, noting her regret that her husband was not present to witness this significant milestone. “I am pained that it was Aketi who motivated me to achieve this milestone, but unfortunately, he is not around to share in this success story,” she said. “But despite the loss, I’m still very much grateful to him and the entire family who sacrificed everything possible for me to achieve this success story.”
