The artiste accused the record label of refusing to pay him his royalties from monetized intellectual content and advances as mutually agreed since 2019. Here is everything to know about their dispute and why he left the label.
Why Mohbad left Marlian Records?
Nigerian street hop singer Mohbad has officially terminated his contract with Naira Marley’s Marlian Music record label.
On Tuesday, October 25, the singer’s management announced his separation from the record company. In a statement from his legal team, they claimed that Mohbad’s departure was due to the ongoing harassment he endured, which Naira Marley coordinated, as well as unpaid royalties since 2019.
The “KPK” singer’s departure occurred a few weeks after he used Twitter on October 5 to post pictures of injured bodies and claim that the Marlian crew had attacked him when he asked to have his management changed.
He wrote, “World pls help me oo I’m dying inside,” adding, “Just because I want to change my manager who is their brother, see what they did to me at Marlian House.”
In addition to saying that he was at the hospital for a chest X-ray and CT Scan for head impact as a result of the assault, he also said, “I’m not high oo cos that is what dey always say just to die down everything.”
Naira Marley was allegedly there for the assault and did nothing to stop it, according to him.
The musician further claims that the Marlian Music record label has withheld from him advances and royalties from intellectual property that has been commercialized since 2019.
“You have failed to make any advances since 2019 as mutually agreed by both parties, in violation of the terms of the agreement between our customer and yourself;
The statement stated, “You have also failed to pay all royalties due our client from all of his intellectual property works that have been monetized, released, and used by you from 2019 to date.”

Days after Mohbad’s passing, Zinoleesky switched from Marlian Music to his new label, Zinonymous Sounds. The promoter had cancelled his forthcoming US tour.
On Tuesday, September 12, Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba), 27, a former performer for Marlian Music, passed away in questionable circumstances.
Marley has been charged with bullying Mohbad to death by music enthusiasts.
Additionally, Zinoleesky has been criticized by fans for remaining silent as Marley and Sam Larry tormented Mohbad.
Before Mohbad’s death, Zinoleesky’s Instagram bio didn’t have the name of any record label on it unlike now that Zinonymous Sounds is clearly written on the bio.
But after Nigerians started ditching Naira Marley and his record label, following numerous allegations of bullying, beating and assaults against Mohbad, Zinolessly’s decision to create Zinonymous Sounds, might have been influenced by the recent happenings.
