Lagos to Prosecute Six Individuals for Urinating on Railway Line: Zero Tolerance Policy

LAGOS GOVERNMENT ENFORCES ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS WITH STRICT ACTION AGAINST PUBLIC URINATION

The Lagos State Government is taking firm action against public urination and defecation as part of a broader environmental sanitation campaign. Recently, six individuals were arrested for urinating on a rail line near the Nigeria Army Shopping Complex in Oshodi. These arrests are part of the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards environmental offenses. The state has launched a comprehensive enforcement drive, led by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), to tackle public sanitation issues and prevent the spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhea.

During a recent sanitation exercise, state officials, including the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and the Ministry of Transportation, emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness across Lagos. The task force is focusing on high-traffic areas such as the Berger Expressway and railways, with the goal of apprehending and prosecuting offenders to serve as a deterrent to others.

The state government, through KAI, has issued strict orders for the immediate enforcement of these environmental laws. KAI officers have been instructed to intensify their efforts in arresting anyone found violating these regulations, regardless of their status. This initiative aims to ensure that Lagos remains clean and healthy for all residents. Any officers found compromising their duties will also face disciplinary actions.
