Busi Lurayi is a South African actress best known for playing the character Phumzile on the SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la (from 2005-2006 and again in 2010) and its spin-off series Ses’Top La.

In 2006 she won the inaugural S.A.F.T.A. (South African Film and Television Awards) for Best Supporting Actress in a T.V. Comedy for her role as Phumzile.

Lurayi quit the show after the first season (replaced by Thuli Thabethe) to join the cast of the ITV drama series Wild At Heart starring Amanda Holden of Kiss Me Kate fame, about a British family.

They relocate to a game reserve in South Africa.

Lurayi plays Thandi, a teacher who home-schools the children, in the show’s second season. She was featured as a supporting cast member.

She returned to the role of Phumzile for City Ses’la’s fourth and final season in 2010. Her character then got a spin-off series, Ses’Top La, which premiered in 2012.

In May 2006, she made a guest appearance on the medical drama series E.R., playing the role of Sittina in the episode titled “There Are No Angels Here” (Season 12, Episode 20).

Busisiwe Lurayi, who is the star of the Netflix comedy series How to Ruin Christmas, has died and has been laid to rest.

We confirmed the news on Monday through her agency Eye Media Artists, who shared the official family statement about the ugly incident on social media. The owner of the agency Brian Makau and her manager also confirmed the news.

The statement said Busisiwe was confirmed dead on Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi.

Busisiwe passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday.

”The family said the cause of her death remains unknown as they await the autopsy report.

They asked for time and space to absorb the tragic news.

“We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news.

We thank you for your support given so far.”Busisiwe is best known for starring as Phumzile on the SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la ( 2005-2006 and again in 2010) and its spin-off series Ses’Top La.
