Montogomery police have issued four active warrants as of Sunday and more will likely follow as they review videos posted to X, local NBC affiliate station WSFA reported.
According to authorities, the altercation took place in the 200 block of Coosa Street at 7 o\’clock on Saturday. One of the boaters allegedly refused to relocate their pontoon boat so that the Harriott II Riverboat could dock, according to a witness.
“Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job,” Montgomery mayor Steven Reed said in a statement. “Warrants are being signed and justice will be served.”
A shirtless man appeared to throw the first punch, running up and punching the dock worker in the face, the video shows.
As onlookers yell as the two struggle, the employee throws off his hat. Two additional white males then join in and punch the employee, according to the video. There are sounds of a woman screaming asking people to assist the employee.
The video then shows a black man running down a ramp to the pier while another dives into the water and swims over to defend the worker.
The fight appears to be over as many additional black guys back the dock worker by making their way down to the pier.
Before being apprehended and handcuffed by police, one man beats a man and then a lady who were both pontoon boaters over the head with a folding chair. According to the video, police also handcuffed several of the pontoon boaters.
“As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community,” Reed said. “Those who choose violence will be held accountable by our criminal justice system.”
