In Lagos, Lagos State, Mr. Akinola Ikudola, a 65-year-old businessman, was granted a divorce from his wife, Funsho Ikudola, on the grounds that she became pregnant while they were still living together.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the court president, Mr. Adeniyi Koledoye, allegedly said that it was acceptable for both couples to separate because they had become tired of cohabitating as husband and wife.
“This court has no choice but to dissolve the marriage because both parties agreed to its breakup.
“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Akinola and Funsho Ikudola dissolved today.
“Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.
“Each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested. The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours,” he said.
He gave their mother custody of their two kids and ordered Akinola to pay N10,000 per month as a feeding allowance.
He also instructed him to oversee their general care and education. Koledoye ordered the petitioner to give N300,000 to his wife as severance and lodging expenses.

“The petitioner is to pay N150,000 as severance fee to his wife so that she can move on with her life and another N150,000 for her to rent an accommodation so that she can move out of his house,” he made a decision.
On the basis that his wife fell pregnant while still living with him, Akinola had already asked the court to annul his 21-year marriage.
