Anya Chalotra has enchanted “The Witcher” audience as Yennefer of Vengerberg for two seasons, and reprises the role again in Season 3 — this time promising a “new phase” for the sorceress.

Her co-star Henry Cavill reportedly confirmed last year that this season will be his final (the part of Geralt will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth), but Chalotra isn’t going anywhere.
“There are so many situations that Yennefer hasn’t been in yet,” says the actor to Variety. “And it’s only after I’ve done that with the character that I know where she’d go, how she’d choose to get out of or into a situation.”

Chalotra, who was as stunned as the fans by Cavill’s departure (“We didn’t know until after we’d finished Season 3,” she says), has already contacted Hemsworth via email and is “excited” for him to inject new energy to the program.
Ahead of the release of Season 3, Volume 1 of “The Witcher” on June 29 (Volume 2 on July 27), Chalotra spoke with Variety about Yennefer and Geralt’s relationship, her connection with Hemsworth, and other projects she wishes to work on someday.
What can you tell us about Yennefer’s arc this season?
She has a lot of work to do considering how we ended last season and her representation. She needs to make amends with Geralt and Ciri — or, more accurately, show that she can be trusted.
Also, figure out what she wants. I believe she shed a lot of ego at the end of last season, and she’s now in a new period of her life.
We haven’t been able to tell you everything. We’ve all had to accept that we’re taking a different approach to these works.
There are so many moments in the books that we all love, and love for a reason, that we’ve managed to do — and have a good go at. And hopefully, it’s affected people, the fans, the people who love the books.
What’s been your favourite part of playing Yennefer so far?
It is quite difficult [to choose]. I’d say the costumes are incredible, and just wearing them makes you feel amazing. So that’s a highlight.
Are you corseted into them?
I was in Season 1 at the time. Those corsets were gone as soon as Lucinda [Wright, costume designer] joined the team [in Season 2]. There are some outfits that we must wear that have a more formal structure, but not as many corsets. And because it’s a collaboration, we get to say what we can and cannot breathe in, which helps with other physical demands.
