The Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms was formally established on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The task of harmonizing taxes across the nation in order to increase revenue has been assigned to the committee, which is made up of tax specialists and significant private sector partners.
The addition of Miss Orire Agbaje, a University of Ibadan student studying economics at the 400-level, to the committee, however, drew the attention of Nigerians.
Who Is Orire Agbaje?
A Daily Trust investigation reveals that Agbaje has a keen interest in tax policy and would collaborate closely with the committee’s chair, Taiwo Oyedele, a former fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
She has an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) certification and serves as the president of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club.
One of the few gifted young Nigerians chosen for the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) Scholars Program in 2023 is Agbaje.

Agbaje cited her love of “crunching digits” as the motivation behind her interest in studying accounting and taxation in her LinkedIn profile.
“My love for crunching digits made me take up Accounting (ICAN) and further exposed me to Corporate finance and taxation which I’m learning,” she wrote.
The committee has been mandated by the President to address the challenges faced by Nigeria in the areas of fiscal governance, tax reforms, and growth facilitation.
It has a one-year window to deliver quick reforms that can be implemented within 30 days, as well as critical reform measures that should be recommended within six months.
