The rest of the box office is underwhelming, with nothing else generating more than $10 million, as Hollywood avoided releasing anything major not only this weekend but also the preceding two weekends.
There was no counterprogramming when Black Panther debuted in 2018, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and finished second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million, respectively.
That weekend grossed $287 million, compared to $208 million this weekend. Take away the $22 million disparity between the two Black Panther flicks, and the margin between the two weekends is still $57 million.

Pathaan, the largest grosser of the tough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, finished second with only $8.6 million. Despite the arrival of blockbuster competition in its fourth weekend, the figures did not completely collapse, dropping 53% for a total of $151 million.
It had a worldwide total of $352 million, which isn’t a terrific total considering its $200 million budget. Still, it’s the most successful picture since Pathaan, though Wakanda Forever will soon exceed it.
Pathaan finished third in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season’s most tenacious grasses and one of the year’s few bright spots in adult flicks.
The domestic total stands at $56.5 million. Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which experienced a 5% decline for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and a $40.8 million total.
This is hardly surprising given that it is the only family film on the market, and Pathaan is expected to gross four times its $11.4 million opening weekend. Nonetheless, the $72.6 million global total is low given the $50 million budget, even though a number of international markets have yet to launch.
Pathaan rounds out the top five, with its largest weekend decline ever, plunging 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that’s no excuse to be down on the horror film, which has a domestic total of $103 million and a global total of $ 210 million from a $20 million budget.
