A lot of people have been born with a signature from their maker, no matter how visible it is. This is what we refer to as birthmarks. This marks can be found anywhere around the body. Some might just be mere marks, while other do appear as growth. So, what is a birthmark?

Birthmarks are a common phenomenon during and after birth. They appear in different sizes with some people having tiny ones and others having big ones. Some types of birthmarks are inherited by the child from their parent, while others just happen by chance. What Do Birthmarks Mean?
From a medical explanation, birthmarks occur due to the formation of some skin pigment that does not make it to the skin surface but gets lodged in the deeper layers. Another set of birthmarks is formed as a result of faulty blood vessels beneath the skin.

Some folklore claim that birthmarks could be formed on the child’s skin as a result of some items consumed (too much drinking of alcohol) by the mother during pregnancy or due to some incidents that might have affected the pregnancy. Myths have it that the strong feelings a mother had during pregnancy could result in the formation of a birthmark on the child. For instance, if a pregnant mother fell and was frightened as a result of it, it could cause formation of a mole on the child.

Traditionally, it is believed that birthmarks are also associated with a person’s past life or what we call “reincarnation.” For people who believe to have lived before coming to earth again, their birthmarks indicate some trauma they may have faced in their past life or the difficulty experienced in coming back to earth.

- On the Jaw: This shows that one will have a poor health and a bad lifestyle.
- The back: This mean that you are truthful and open-minded.
- Legs: Anyone with a birthmark on the legs is said to be dependent. They can make no decision on their own.
- Shoulders: A birthmark here means that you will constantly lack money while a birthmark on the right shoulder means that you will always have money.
- Fingers: Birthmarks on the fingers signifies that you take responsibility on your own.
- Arms: A birthmark on the arm for men means that he is a home maker. He likes to stay at home and take care of the children while. While for a woman, it means that she puts her career first.
Birthmark Shape Meanings
The shapes of the birthmarks may or may not mean anything to different individuals. It is all dependent on our cultural experiences and teachings.
For example a round mole birthmark is taken to mean that the person is friendly and nice to be with. An oblong mole signifies that the person will be lucky with money while an angular mole means that the person suffers from dual personality traits and as such is both good and bad at the same time.

For a heart shaped birthmark, mean that he/she will have a life full of love. The person will always be lucky to meet people who will love them genuinely. They will also be fun loving persons in their life.

Having Birthmarks on the body could mean so many things. For instance, a birthmark on face means something different from a birthmark on the hand. A birthmark near the mouth for men means that they will be lucky with great wealth but for women it means that they are talkative.
A birthmark on the right side of the mouth (cheek) for men means that they are quite passionate while for women it means that they will have a fulfilling love life.

If you have a birthmark on the center of your forehead, it means that you are an attractive and will have several relationships. Some years ago, people with birthmarks were believed to be having the devil’s signature on them and people who had birthmarks on their bodies were secluded. Birthmarks found on the faces are believed to be angel’s kisses. For Mongolian birthmarks, there are communities that believe they are as a result of spiritual beating to eject a baby from their mother’s womb.
