Popularly known by his stage name DaBaby, Jonathan Lyndale Kirk—born December 22, 1991— is a talented, passionate American rapper and songwriter.

His fame started in 2019 following the release of his debut album Baby on Baby. This was after he had dropped various mixtapes between 2014 and 2018. The album was the seventh on the Billboard 200 in contrast to his second album, Kirk.
DaBaby‘s has been flourishing in his career as a rapper. He has been nominated for six Grammys, earned four MTV Video Music Award nominations, and won three ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

Early Life

DaBaby was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 22, 1991. He moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he spent most of his younger years.
He listened to and idolised Eminem, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and his two older brothers (one of whom was Glen Johnson), while he was growing up.
His father died not long after releasing his debut album in 2019. He dedicated his second album to his father’s last name and used his picture on the cover.
His brother, Glen Johnson, died in November 2020, at the age of 34, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Education
DaBaby attended Vance High School (now known as Julius L. Chambers High School). He graduated in 2010. Afterwards he attended the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. He dropped out after two years because he claimed that he only went to University for his parents’ sake.

Career
In 2015, DaBaby‘s career in music experienced a remarkable turn following the release of his debut mixtape, Nonfiction. However, because many people opined that it was amateurish, it failed to attract music lovers. This did not discourage him from his other projects.
Also, DaBaby did not have any prior on-stage experience. Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived, did not have a great rap music scene either.
In 2015, the young American moved to Austin, Texas, to partake in the annual South by Southwest Music Festival. He proved his talent by performing many of his tracks from his mixtapes on stage.
DaBaby gained positive vibes at the festival due to his performance. After this he released another mixtape in 2016 titled God’s Work: Resurrected. He collaborated with the renowned Boosie Badazz to with him
The mixtape God’s Work: Resurrected earned him more attention than his debut mixtape. In the absence of a record label, he mostly released his singles and albums independently on online platforms such as ‘SoundCloud,’ where he developed a significant fanbase over the years.
Subsequently, DaBaby dropped a few mixtapes, such as Back on My Baby Jesus Sh!t Again, and Billion Dollar Baby, with each new single making him more popular.
He released the first part of his Baby Talk mixtape in January 2017. This happens to be his most successful tape. In the same year, he released three more instalments.

Light Show, a single released in 2016 is the most outstanding one. The single became much popular on platforms such as Datpiff, SoundCloud, and YouTube, making DaBaby an internet sensation.
In June 2018, DaBaby released Baby Talk 5, the last instalment of the ‘Baby Talk’ series. In November of that year, he released yet another mixtape titled Blank Blank, which was fairly successful.
In 2019 he announced that he had signed a deal with Interscope Records, one of the biggest music labels in the country.
The album, Baby on Baby, was officially released in March 2019 and had 13 tracks. The album featured several popular artists such as Rich Homie Quan, Offset, and Rich the Kid.
The album took the 25th spot on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually rose to the seventh spot. Suge, a single from the album became particularly popular and claimed the eighth spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.

On July 27, 2020, DaBaby released a new single: No Dribble. It was added to the deluxe edition of Blame It on Baby, which was released on August 4, 2020. On November 20, 2020, he released his debut EP titled My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G). Its aim was to give his late brother, Glen Johnson, a tribute.
DaBaby released another single titled Masterpiece, featuring a music video for the track directed by Gemini Visions, on January 15, 2021. And on February 19, 2021, DaBaby released a remix to SpotemGottem‘s single titled Beat Box and a music video.

DaBaby is an outstanding rapper. He has been nominated for six Grammys, including Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Suge” in 2020, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance for “BOP” in 2021, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Record of the Year for “Rockstar” in 2021.

DaBaby is a young rap artist with an amazing swag and an awesome physique. He is 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm, 1.73 m) tall and weighs about 72kg (159 Ibs).


DaBaby has three children. The first was born in 2017. He dated an American singer, DaniLeigh, in 2020. They, however, broke up in February 2021 because of the controversy that was stirred up about the lyrics in her song- “yellow bone that’s what he wants.”
Months after their break up, DaBaby was reported to have had a child with the singer.
He has been in relationships with DaniLeigh (2020-2021), Latoia Danet and MEME (his baby momma, 2014).

Controversies
DaBaby was involved in an incident in Huntersville, North Carolina, where a 19-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and died soon after. He, however, verifiy his involvement in the shooting, saying that he acted in self-defence.
The most intense charges were dropped in March 2019. But he was found guilty of carrying a hidden weapon, a misdemeanour.



In January 2020, the rapper was detained and questioned in Miami in relation to a robbery investigation. He was later arrested after authorities discovered he had an arrest warrant out in Texas for a battery charge.
Publications have it that his crew members allegedly jumped and robbed a music promoter who only paid DaBaby US$20,000 instead of the US$30,000 he was owed DaBaby for a performance in Miami.
Reports say that he and his associates allegedly took US$80 cash, a credit card, and an iPhone 7 from the music promoter. DaBaby was subsequently charged with battery but released from Miami-Dade County jail 48 hours after detention.
During DaBaby‘s 2020 “Up Close N Personal” tour, he allegedly slapped a female fan on his way to the stage in Tampa, Florida. The angry crowd reacted by booing. And so he exited the venue without performing any song. In his apology, he disclosed that he slapped the lady because she placed her phone too close to his face while taking a video with the flash on.
In February 2022, the American rapper and his crew molested Brandon Bills, DaniLeigh‘s brother, at a bowling alley in the Los Angeles area.
