List of banned songs in Nigeria by NBC
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned the following songs by major Nigerian musicians. These set of songs are said to contain words, visuals and arts, which are not accepted or not inline with the regulations provided by the commission. These songs also depicts scenes which Promote illegal activities, drugs etc which are harmful both mentally, medically and otherwise and are thereby considered offensive for broadcast.
Their songs have been declared not fit to be broadcast and banned from being aired on all local radio and TV stations.

- Falz, a lawyer turned rapper, never seize to explain Nigeria’s many problems in his rap lines and also amplify them with visuals. He had done similarly by emulating his American musical counterpart Childish Gambino’s note on societal satire with his version of This is America titled This is Nigeria with double the satire and also double the effect. Double the effect being the keyword because the song, as well as its video, had resulted in being banned on the 13th of August by the NBC, who describing the line “This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal,” as vulgar lyrics.

Most fans of Pop Music and lovers of Wande Coal will know that the singer loves his women thick and very curvy with ‘heavy’ backsides. The singer had documented this love on his record with DJ Tunez, Iskaba. But the NBC are not in tune with that, especially the lines that went “Oh no, oh no, girl you dey make me kolo, shaking that ass like kolo,’
What is NBC and what is it’s function?
The National Broadcasting Commission is the broadcast regulator of Nigeria which was set up on August 24, 1992, by Decree 38 of 1992 later amended as an act of the National Assembly by Act 55 of 1999 and now known as National Broadcasting Commission Laws of the Federation 2004, CAP N11 to among other responsibilities, regulate and control the broadcasting industry in Nigeria.
The commission in its advisory capacity to the federal government regularly adopts scientific research methods to gather data, analyze trends in line with the dynamism of the industry and advise government accordingly. The commission is also responsible to receive, process and consider applications for the establishment, ownership or operation of radio and television stations including cable television service, direct satellite broadcast and any other medium of broadcasting; radio and television stations owned, established or operated by the federal, state and local government; and stations run under private ownership.
The commission recommends the above applications after due consideration, through the Minister of Information to the President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, for the grant of radio and television licenses. It is headed by Bello Shehu Ilelah, the current director general of the commission.
