Early Life & History of Mercy Chinwo
Mercy Nnenda Chinwo popularly known by the name Mercy Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990 in Portharcourt, Rivers state. She is the first daughter of a polygamous home. She lost her dad at a very early age and was left to the care of her mum and other family members. It wasn’t easy for Mercy as a little girl to grow up in the ways of God but fortunately for her, she discovered her musical gift and despite the challenges from her family, she decided to take her music very seriously.
Music and Acting Career
Mercy began to take her music ministry very seriously after the death of dad. She joined her local church choir because she loves singing and with time she began to sing so well that she graduated into the adult church choir. That alone gave her a boost in her music journey as she was also given leadership responsibility in the choir.
Mercy will go for Choir rehasals often from home just to fulfil her passion for music.
She began doing backup’s for other gospel artistes such as Preye Odede, Buchi, Sammie Okposo, Joe praize, and Chris Morgan.
Her first major breakthrough
Minister Mercy got her first major breakthrough after wining the Nigerian Idol Music Talent show season 2 in 2012. There she made a name for herself and since then, she started gaining national recognitions. She then went into the movie industry after she won the music talent year and featured in one of Yvonne Nelson’s film titled “House of Gold” starring alongside other actors like Francis Odega, Omawumi, Majid Michel and Ice prince.
As time passed on, Mercy realised that her passion for music was still intact and could not afford her the joy and peace to settle as a movie Actress, so she left the movie industry to concentrate on her music career, which led to the birth of her first single titled “Testimony” in the year 2015 and another single “igwe” in 2016.
She released her first Album “The Cross My Gate” in the year 2018 and her second Album “Satisfied” in the year 2020.
