Toka Mcbaror, Meet the Director behind Dark October movie
Toka Mcbaror, is a visionary movie and media mogul. So far, he has been able to make a great impact in the entertainment industry in West Africa and beyond. He was born and raised in Northern Nigeria, he now calls Toronto, Ontario, Canada his second home.
Toka’s love for engineering, music, and action movies began at a tender age and this has helped shaped his life’s journey since then. Despite having no formal education in film making or media production, Toka has worked with prominent local and international music and movie celebrities, as well as corporate organizations like StarTimes, Daar Communications, Multichoice Africa, Lever Brothers, EbonyLife Entertainment, Linda Ikeji TV, Cooperate World Entertainment, and many more.
As the CEO of Evolution Studio 66 – a film, TV and media production company; Toka brings a unique perspective to the film industry. He has directed and produced award-winning movies and has received recognition and praise from the film community. He made his first film, “Bante,” in 2004, and since then, has directed several other full-length films and music videos.
Toka’s body of work includes Dark October, Almajiri, Herdsmen, Merry Men 1 (Real Yoruba Demons), The Island, etc
Toka has received several awards and nominations for his work, including the TINFF, ZAFAA, Berlin Campus Film Festival, AFRIFF, AMAA, NMVA, and AMVCA. He is married and a proud father of his son. He continues to inspire and push boundaries in the African film industry as he is so often referred to as the encyclopedia of filmmaking, bringing his raw and authentic voice to Nollywood.
